Taking a class is a great way to experience an in-depth exploration of a medium or topic. Adult Classes are paid for by the session, and are open to everyone ages 16 years and older.

Painting Basics with Rhona Candeloro

Mondays, 6:30 - 9:00pm,  January 22nd- March 12th

Adult Class

The emphasis of the Painting Basics class will be learning to draw and paint through the exploration of basic techniques. As you work in either pencil, oil, acrylic or pastel, you are drawing and composing in value and colors. In this art class, we will learn how to use these concepts to achieve your particular goals or ideas by studying how light defines shape and color, allowing form to emerge. There is no experience necessary. Everyone works at their own pace and level.

Contemporary Drawing Techniques with Mallary Johnson

Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9:00pm, January 17th - March 7th

Adult Class

Discover new possibilities for your work by delving into the language of contemporary drawing. This course will help students broaden their visual vocabulary and bring a greater degree of intentionality into choices of subject matter, mark-making and materials. Learn how line, color, pattern, rhythm and texture can work together to make compelling images and explore the relationship of drawing to other mediums such as painting, photography, collage and sculpture. Exercises in this class will lean toward the experimental so students can find new ways to express their visual ideas and discover untapped material and aesthetic choices. An optional recommended supply list will be provided before the class. Students are encouraged to work in the media of their choice.

Printmaking Without a Press with Gillian Pokalo

Tuesdays, 6:30 - 8:30pm, January 16th-March 6th

Adult Class

In this class, students will explore a variety of printmaking media that do not require the use of a printing press. They will create gelli plate prints, linoleum block prints, collagraphs, monoprints, and screen prints, and will experiment ways to combine their imagery into unique works of art.

Projects in Mosaics: Making Mandalas with Kelly Swenson

Thursdays, 10:00am - 12:30pm, January 28th-March 8th

Adult Class

Design your own mandala using a variety of glass, china, tile, and found objects!  You will learn to cut stained glass and use the various tools involved in mosaics.  A mandala is a spiritual/ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe.  In common use, "mandala" has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos. The basic form of most mandalas is a square or circle with four gates leading to a center point.

Working with the Wheel with Abigail Severino

Tuesdays, 6:30pm - 9:30pm, January 16th - March 6th

Adult Class

This is a basic introduction to the pottery wheel. No experience is needed. We will cover centering, throwing, trimming and surface finishes for works made on the pottery wheel.

Projects in Ceramics: Exploring Slump Molds and Surface Decoration with Kelly Swenson

Tuesdays, 10:00am - 12:30pm, January 16th - March 6th

Adult Class

In this class we will learn slab building and use slump molds to create vessels for household and decorative use.  Students will explore varying methods of surface decoration on those vessels using sgraffito, textures, wax resist, and more!

Wheel Thrown Ceramics with Harrison Bowen

Thursdays, 7 - 9pm, January 18th - March 15th *no class on March 1st

Adult Class

In this class you'll learn basic techniques for creating ceramics using a potter's wheel. No experience necessary, all levels welcome! Students will work with the instructor to create classic pottery pieces as well as conceptualize and execute a custom final project. Some of the techniques covered include: centering, throwing, and trimming on the wheel. Come play in the mud!

Bring your appreciation of creatures with you and let's create using coils and pinched forms. We will discuss and augment the best characteristics of your favorite critters in clay. Build with various clay bodies that best suit your varmints. Glaze in ways that enhance the best aspects of your specimens. Master the application of wings, horns, scales and gills. Appreciate the differences with low and high firings and learn to dip, drip, and spray three different glazes on your work or allow the raw clay body to highlight your sculpted forms. Texturing before, during and after shaped work is optioned to artists. No Rabies vaccination is required.

The Creative Cocoon: Discover your authentic creative work with Siobhan Bedford

Saturdays, 12:30 - 2:30pm, January 20th - March 10th

Adult Class

Do you have a longing to be creative, but can’t seem to make progress? This journey is designed to help you reveal your unique creative voice and to empower you to follow it. We’ll use the tools of journaling, meditation, sketching and art making, along with select readings to help you find your inspiration. Each week will be an exploration of a different facet of the creative process. We’ll search together with a sense of dedication and a spirit of fun. During the class, you’ll complete a Creative Project of your own design, and leave “The Cocoon” with a map to help you continue your creative journey after the class has ended. This class is a great opportunity to deepen your engagement with any creative endeavor, including drawing, painting, sculpture, music, writing, photography, dance, etc.
