Shape Note Singing

2nd Thursday of the Month

Shape-note singing is community music that takes its name from the four shaped notes patented in Philadelphia in 1798: Fa, Sol, La, and Mi. This living singing tradition is unlike any other form of American sacred music both in its vibrant sound and in its distinctive singing practice. All are welcome to sing with us. No experience is necessary and singing books are provided.

Artistic Affirmation and Accountability: A constructive and friendly critique group!

This group is for artists to bring their weaknesses and turn them into strengths with the support of other artists. Bring your preliminary work, WIP, or finished pieces for feedback. Know that other artists are encouraging you and want to see your completed work. Finished is better than perfect!

Friday, June 15th, 7-9pm

Have you always wanted to try painting, but don’t know where to start? Or are you a painter in need of motivation to get painting again? Are you looking for a fun date night or night out with friends? If so, then BYOB Paint Night might be what you’re looking for! We’ll provide all the supplies (acrylic paint, canvases, brushes, easels, painting trays…) and you bring yourself and a beverage of your choosing! Participants will be encouraged to work on their own, individualized paintings. It is helpful to bring a photograph or reference image to work from. The leader will help you sketch out your piece, break your painting down into steps, and offer advice as you work. Please note, that everyone will be working on different paintings. It is not guaranteed that you’ll complete a painting in the time frame.

$20 per painter, all materials included. Drop-ins welcome. All participants must be 21 or older.
